GRAIN FED LAMB Symbol GF

  • Number of Days on Feed: 35
  • Age: 0 Permanent Incisors
  • Minimum Fat Class: 2 (>5mm)
  • Minimum Weight Class: 18 (>16kg)

The lambs must have been fed for not less than 35 days on ration containing a Metabolise-able energy (ME) content not less than 10 mega joules (Mj) of ME per kg of dry matter and a crude protein (CP) content of not less than 12%.

GRAIN FED HOGGET Symbol GF

  • Hogget Category Only
  • Number of Days on Feed: 35
  • Age: 1 - 2 Permanent Incisors
  • Minimum Fat Class: 2 (>5mm)
  • Minimum Weight Class: 20 (>18kg)

The hoggets must have been fed for not less than 35 days on ration containing a Metabolise-able energy (ME) content not less than 10 mega joules (Mj) of ME per kg of dry matter and a crude protein (CP) content of not less than 12%.

Certification:

A prerequisite to LPAS certification is ensuring that the enterprise can demonstrate that the enterprise can demonstrate that relevant approvals are in place for the facility from the State or Local Authority.

In addition, LPA QA (Flockcare) accreditation is also a prerequisite to progressing LPAS certification.  Information on LPA QA (Flockcare) is available here.

An LPAS Delivery Docket at the time of slaughter must accompany all lamb or hoggets slaughtered, processed or described as Grain Fed.  The LPAS Delivery Docket must be signed by an approved LPAS QA officer.  On plant administration of these Declarations/Dockets remain the responsibility of the Department of Agriculture.

AUS-MEAT is responsible for post slaughter monitoring of Grain Fed Lamb and Hogget product description utilising existing systems and quality assurance programs.
